Don 2 collects Rs 50.43 crs at overseas Box Office in first week

Don 2
Bollywood movie Don 2, which was released in several foreign countries, has received overwhelming response at the International Box Office during this Christmas season. The Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra starrer has smashed all the previous records by fetching approximately Rs 50.43 crore ($9.47 million) in Overseas collection centres in the first week.

Don 2, which had graced 164 screens in the US, has collected Rs 13.85 crore ($2.6 million) at American Box Office in the first week. This is the highest collection of the movie in a foreign country. Its second highest earning in a foreign land comes from Middle East, where it has grossed Rs 11.18 crore ($2.1 million).

Farhan Akthar directed film has also received good response at the UK Box Office. Don 2 has earned Rs 8.52 crore ($1.6 million) in the first week of its release. The movie has grossed Rs 3.57 crore at the collection centres in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Another whopping amount of Rs 13.31 crore ($2.5 million) is coming from its release in 30 other foreign countries.

However, Rs 50.43 crore is a highest collection for an Indian movie in the foreign countries. No other Bollywood movie has earned such a huge amount at the overseas Box Office ever. With this big collection, the film Don 2 has set a new deadline for Hindi films releasing in 2012. It should be seen if any other movie will break this record.

Shahrukh Khan says he is not interested in politics

Shahrukh Khan
We have generally seen how Bollwood superstars enter politics after quiting the glamour industry. But actor Shahrukh Khan is not on the same path. In an exclusive interview with Zee News, the King Khan talked at length about politics, Anna Hazare, Lokpal Bill and Bharat Ratna, apart from other things.

Asked about his political associations and plans to join the mainstream politics, Shahrukh said, “I have been too long in this profession to change it. Politics is a full time job. For joining politics, one needs to be a professional politician.”

“A professional politician has to be selfless. You should be happy with your life so that they can work for people. I am not selfless. Also, I don’t know politics", he added.

Shahrukh Khan vows to quit smoking after Don 2

Shahrukh Khan
New Delhi: Shahrukh Khan is not the happy man when it comes to smoking as he is struggling to quit since long time but yet not seen the face of success. But reportedly he took a New Year resolution of staying away from smoking in 2012.

While, his friend and Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan is helping out his smoking buddies in quitting it, SRK seems to have been drawn on Hrithik's advice and took such resolution.

As per reports a magic book helped Hrithik to put a full stop on his smoking habit and now he is passing it to his friends in Bollywood. The book describes ill-effects of smoking and tips of getting rid of it.

When Shahrukh was asked whether Hrithik approached him, he said, "I know this is a bad thing but the habit doesn't leave me. Even if someone tells me or not, I know about the ill-effects of smoking. I will try and give it up on my own."

He also said that end number of people ask him daily when will he quit smoking? SRK said that now he is fed up of those questions and feels guilty about it. He added that he is trying hard to smoke less.

Though on Number of occasions Shahrukh promised to give up smoking but failed to keep his vow. Now, SRK says he will think of quitting smoking after his upcoming film, Don 2, which releases on December 23.

Now let us see how much loyal is SRK this time in terms of kicking smoking.

Don 2' to open well despite comparatively low hype

Now this has to be one Shahrukh Khan film that is arriving with minimal buzz and hype when compared to his last few releases. Of course a Shahrukh Khan film is a Shahrukh Khan film which means there are millions out there waiting to catch what he has to offer in 'Don 2'. However compare it with the kind of hype that had been built around 'Ra. One' or 'My Name Is Khan' and it is quite apparent that 'Don 2' wants to make a relatively silent entry.

In a way it does make sense too because this time around, audience will have their own decision making coming into play instead of select critics telling them (after watching 30 minutes of the footage!) about whether a film is good or not. Audience isn't being pushed into theatres, it has been rather invited and this is where the difference lies. This also means that there are no talks around the print count, budget, duration of special effects, grandeur, effort spent all over the world etc. etc. Not that 'Don 2' isn't abound with any of these aforementioned pointers but then the makers of 'Don 2' aren't talking about that.

Such controlled promotion also means that a record breaking opening weekend is certainly ruled out. Not that the makers are looking for that either as they would be rather preferring the film to sustain over the weekdays and let a positive word of mouth grow instead of getting their moolah in the first weekend, getting into the profit zone but losing respect by seeing an even quicker crash. They don't have to either since the film has a full fortnight spread right in front of it which means there are enough days to earn moolah, what with a holiday season around.

All of this translates into a simple fact that while records would be some distance away, the film should take a good opening around 70% mark (considering the fact that it would be a huge release with 20 odd shows in every leading multiplex) hence resulting in a weekend of at the least 45 crore. Yes, a 50 crore opening weekend is also possible but given the backlash that is expected post 'Ra. One', a 10% variance is pretty much in order.

Preview: What to expect from Shah Rukh's 'Don 2'

New Delhi: The exhausting promotions, the multi-city tours and the endless interviews have all led up to this moment. Having established his domination over the Asian drug world, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is back in the theatres this Friday reprising his earlier role as Don 2, the sequel to the 2006 remake of the Amitabh Bachchan classic, hits the screens.

The film has already been released in the UK where it has got mostly positive reviews from fans. Don 2 has Khan playing the antagonist reprising his role from the 2006 film 'Don: The Chase Begins Again.'

A lot was riding on the first film, directed by actor-director Farhan Akhtar, where Khan was not only pitted against acclaimed industry veterans such as Boman Irani and Om Puri but also expected to shine in a role made famous by Bachchan.

In the last big holiday weekend of 2011, the core team of Khan, Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani hope to recreate the 2006 magic with a sleek story that will hopefully keep the audiences engaged for the better part of two hours.

Sixty-seven cars were reportedly blown up during a chase scene. Expect high octane action, this time in 3D as the action picks up on the streets of Berlin. Hrithik Roshan fans can look forward to a short cameo role. Priyanka Chopra has toned up for the film while Lara Dutta is sizzling in a gold dress in one of the songs. Visually, this is a film that has the feel of an international crime thriller.

'Don 2' will be released with 3,000 movie prints in the domestic market and it will also have 3D release in another 550 screens. Written and directed by Akhtar, the film is co-produced by Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and Akhtar and Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment. While Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Irani and Puri reprise their roles as Don, Roma, Vardhan and Malik respectively, the sequel has some new additions such as Kunal Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Aly Khan, Nawaab Shah and Sahil Shroff.

Akhtar roped in international stunt director Wolfgang Stegemann, who has worked on Hollywood films 'Inglourious Basterds' and 'Valkyrie', for the stunts. He trained Khan for daring fight sequences and also created a special fight style for him in 'Don 2'.

It is a negative role for Khan, but he says, "I am not glorifying badness in real life and these are just films and stories, but as an actor it is one of the greatest highs to play a villain's role."

Khan, in his over two decades in the film industry, has never acted in a sequel.

He has worked on his look for this film. While Don (2006) saw him donning suave dinner jackets, this time around he has gone for jailhouse grunge.

Shot in the Brandenburg Gate, the Olympia Stadium, the Gandarmen Market and the East Side Gallery, it is a breathtaking chase through Berlin's landmarks including a vertigo-inducing 300-feet plunge.

Made at a budget of over Rs 75 crore approximately, the film found itself in the midst of controversies for copyright infringement from the original makers. According to reports, Nariman Films, producer of the 1978 Amitabh starrer 'Don', has sent a legal notice to Excel Entertainment for copyright infringement saying they had only given the right to remake the movie and no rights to make a sequel. The film is the last big release of the year and its satellite right has reportedly been sold for Rs 37 crore to Zee TV.

Trade pundits are keeping their fingers crossed for the film to hit the bull's eye at the box office and allow the filmdom to enter the new year riding on the profits of the film. (With Additional information from IANS)

Why Shah Rukh Khan's Don 2 Will Open Well At Box-Office

Shah Rukh skips Farah Khan's house warming party

Mumbai: Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder held a housewarming bash on Tuesday night. The couple have shifted to a new place in Lokhandwala. While Sallu and Big B were present, Shah Rukh Khan was conspicious by his absence. Hmmm... Blame it on his upcoming film's promotions?

Ekta Kapoor to make Punjabi soaps

Ekta Kapoor is now venturing into Punjabi soaps. She is producing a show starring Teejay Sidhu in the lead. It launches early next year. Teejay will be shown running a roadside dhaba with her two sisters and her mother.

Okay, we know that the trailer of Aamir Khan's next, Talaash isn't going to make its appearance with Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming flick, Don 2. However, the teaser of his friend Sharman Joshi's film Ferrari Ki Sawaari is. More so because producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra wanted to meet the Christmas deadline, as it marks two years since the release of 3 Idiots.

Shahrukh to overpower Aamir?

Aamir Khan, who has ruled the Christmas season for three consecutive years, is being replaced by none other than Shahrukh Khan this year as he's all geared up to enthrall the audience with his December 23, 2011 release DON 2. But, will King Khan's DON 2 surpass the astonishing Box-office record of Aamir's Christmas releases like TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, GHAJINI and 3 IDIOTS?

Aamir's 2007 release TAARE ZAMEEN PAR made an approximate collection of Rs. 60.835 crore while the 2008 release GHAJINI made around Rs. 115.000 crore and 3 IDIOTS, which released in 2009, grossed nearly 208.000 crore. Since then Aamir is recognized for December bonanzas. But, this year it is superstar Shahrukh who's taking a chance to taste the success.

Interestingly, the dialogue promos and songs of SRK's DON 2 have created the required buzz. A series of DON 2 dialogues have been released which people have liked. Moreover, DON is an established franchise. So SRK can take a sigh of relief. However, his last release RA.ONE which received mixed responses from both critics and audiences may have an adverse effect on DON 2.

Playing villain one of the greatest highs: SRK

Mumbai: Years ago his portrayal of negative characters in films like 'Baazigar', 'Darr' and 'Anjaam' had brought acclaim to Shah Rukh Khan, who is now back again with such a role in Farhan Akhtar's 'Don 2: the King is Back'.

It started with Abbas-Mustan thriller 'Baazigar' in which SRK played a negative role. Yash Chopra's 'Darr' (1993), a psychological thriller, was the story of an obsessive lover played by Shah Rukh, to get his lady love Juhi Chawla, who was

already married to another man. A similar storyline in 'Anjaam' had the actor play a bad guy opposite Madhuri Dixit in the female lead.

'Baazigar'and 'Darr' took his career to new heights and established him as an acclaimed actor in Bollywood.

Ask him if the negative characters are liked and memorable, Shahrukh says, "Evil or devil, black or little grey characters, be it in books, stories, films or television, have some sort of an attraction. I started with theatre and there

was nothing like a heroic character. There was a central character or an important character. I have played good and bad on stage. When I joined films I got a chance to play these characters again."

"Now, after 15-20 years, I got a chance to play a negative character in 'Don'. There is a justification for the character to be negative, to be bad. I enjoy doing it. I am in no way glorifying negative characters. These are stories and

characters. But as an actor, it is one of the greatest highs to play a villain," he said.

'Don 2' is the squel to Farhan Akhtar's 2006 film, 'Don: The Chase Begins Again', which itself was a remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 'Don'

Shah Rukh to follow Salman?

Salman Khan and his Eid equation is a known fact. The actor has never been let down by his loyal audience on his Eid releases, be it Wanted, Dabanggor Bodyguard.

Wanted(2009) was a hit; Dabangg(2010) was a blockbuster and so was Bodyguardanother commercial masala potboiler.

And guess who will follow DabanggKhan. Obviously his arch rival Shah Rukh Khan who desperately needs more blockbusters in his career. How can he stay behind Salman? As per the industry buzz, Rohit Shetty and Shah Rukh's Chennai Express which is yet to go on the sets is already making waves in Bollywood.

And why not? Shetty, who is known for his entertainers will be directing SRK for the first time which definitely brings in a lot of curiosity as SRK will be in a completely different set-up.

News is that the shooting of Chennai Expresswill begin only in the second half of 2012 and UTV Motion Pictures is toying with releasing the film during Eid 2013.

It remains to be seen whether SRK too proves to be lucky...

Shah Rukh to visit Patna Dec 22?

Shah Rukh to visit Patna Dec 22? Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan, who had to cancel his `Don 2 - The King Is Back` promotional trip to Patna for security reasons, will reportedly visit the Bihar capital Thursday. Filmmaker Prakash Jha says he takes the responsibility of security arrangements.

Last week, (December 13) SRK had to cancel his trip to Patna at the last minute and it left thousands of his fans bitterly disappointed. Patna District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh says the information about security threat to SRK during Patna visit came from Prakash Jha`s multiplex Cinepolis, which is part of the Patna mall owned by him.

Efforts are now on to pinpoint the personnel at Cinepolis who misinformed Shah Rukh`s entourage regarding the security arrangements.

A source close to SRK`s entourage said: "This time we can`t afford any glitches. We don`t know why we were stopped from visiting Patna last week. But Shah Rukh is very keen not to disappoint his Patna fans."

"He`s accommodated Patna into his tight schedule and he`ll be flying down from Lucknow to Patna on Thursday. This time we aren`t taking any risks. Yes, Shah Rukh won`t be meeting his fans at Mr Prakash Jha`s mall. The venue is being changed."

Jha is very upset with the mega-star`s aborted visit to Bihar`s capital and says he`s willing to take personal charge of the security when SRK visits Patna this week.

"I feel outraged on a personal level and as a man from Bihar who has been trying to improve Bihar`s image in Bollywood. So many stars from Mumbai, including Bachchan Saab (Amitabh Bachchan), have been to Patna. I can`t understand why the security arrangements couldn`t be good enough," said Jha angrily.

He added that the official organisers of Shah Rukh`s visit should have given the administration more time to prepare for the visit.

"The mall takes full responsibility for Shah Rukh`s security. I`d like him to know that during his visit to Patna his safety is my responsibility," Jha said.

Shah Rukh Khan has said that he will not visit any place of worship for a photo-op before the release of his upcoming film as he is not superstitious.

He has a big movie ready to hit the marquee this Friday. And while SRK and the team of " Don 2" are jet-setting across various cities to promote their flick, visiting temples and dargahs has been ruled out by King Khan. If Bollywood folks are a superstitious lot who visit places of worship before the release of their flick, SRK has clarified he would not be making any such visit. "I believe in God and as such I'm not a superstitious person. Before my movie releases, main khuda se dua karta hoon. Waise industry main toh koi Shirdi jaata hai, toh koi dargah. Some even perform a havan. We all want our movies to do well. But I don't go out of my way to do anything or wear anything, I just pray to God in my heart," clarified SRK recently. "Well, Ritesh's (Sidhwani) mother has been praying hard to Lord Ganpati that our film does well," he added.

The Badshah of Bollywood also reasserted his stand on the ban on smoking scenes in films imposed by the government. "I think it's too controlling and against artistic freedom. I'm a smoker myself, but I do not endorse any tobacco product and I constantly tell everyone around that smoking in injurious to health. It's a bad habit and I'm trying to get rid of it myself," said SRK.

SRK revels in the powerful dialogues of Don 2.

Don ko pakad na mushkil hi nahi.. when Bollywood's Badshah Shah Rukh Khan said this in his adorable style during his recent visit to Ahmedabad, the crowd roared in joy. Shah Rukh Khan is looking forward to the release of Don 2 on December 23. During his promotional visit to the city, he said, "It feels wonderful that the sequel is now ready to hit theaters. The sequel is more precious because this is the first time a sequel revolving around a negative character is being released. We all grew up watching Amitabh Bachchan's Don. And now being a part of this project really feels very very special."

The film's dialogues will soon become part of the film folklore judging by the pre-release response is receiving. With his famous dimpled smile, Shah Rukh Khan said, "I enjoy telling the dialogues. I feel as if I was born to say these dialogues. While growing up in Delhi's Pusa Road, I used to say dialogues from Don (starring Big B) so frequently."
Don hogged the limelight when Farhan Akhtar chose to remake it and the movie was released in 2006. Now after five years Farhan is again back to directing the sequel Don 2 which will also be released in 3D.

This gallery is a must watch! Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar were clicked at an event held to launch the Don 2 board games, in Mumbai.

At the event, Shahrukh Khan was at his casual best and was spotted munching popcorns! Interestingly, his previous release Ra.One also saw a game release! SRK said: “I feel gaming is a good platform to tell stories of a film and about the characters through this medium. Today, gaming is a big platform. They make games according to the films. I hope more and more films make use of this growing platform.”

Farhan Akhtar added: “The idea of making a game based on the film's narrative really excited me. It is an interesting way for people to get to do some real action and adventure.”

Shahrukh Khan even wrote on twitter: “Just finished launch of don2 games on Facebook and board games.”

Don 2 earns 37 crores already!

Don 2 earns 37 crores already!
A still from Don 2

We guess nothing sells like Shah Rukh Khan. The actor, whose film Don 2 is set for a Christmas release, has started raking in the money already, or so we hear.

This Farhan Akhtar directed motion picture has sold its satellite rights for a whopping 37 crores, inform trade sources. It's Zee TV who has bought the satellite rights for this movie.

Apparently, this is one of the biggest satellite deals to take place in the history of Indian cinema. It's the hype of the movie along with the success of it's predecessor that has helped it in scoring this big one at the box office.

It looks like the producers have already started their walk to the bank, smiling.

Priyanka Chopra goes macho for DON 2

When she was challenged to catch hold of DON which seemed like an 'impossible' task, Priyanka Chopra at least wanted to give her best. This means that as a cop, while she would be seen on a hot trail of Shahrukh Khan, it won't be relegated to mere 'dialogue baazi'. Instead this 'junglee billi' has gone an extra distance and even kicked some butt, something that would be revealed once the film arrives in theatres. Also, a conscious effort was put into ensuring that she comes across as macho instead of feminine during her action sequences, something that most Bollywood heroines are guilty of.

''While DON 2 has so far been promoted as a Shahrukh Khan affair where he does the balancing act between playing with gizmos and crashing cars, there is quite some action that involves Priyanka Chopra as well,' says an insider, 'She had done some action in DON earlier, most notably being the mission where she rescues Shahrukh, but that was more stylised. In DON 2, she has kicked butt and how.''

CHECK OUT: Is Priyanka Chopra the next 'rockstar' in the making?

Priyanka too was waiting for such an opportunity to come her way since the last time she had indulged in some real hand-to-hand combat was during DRONA. In the superhero film that had released three years ago, Priyanka had played a woman with warrior skills and had even learnt 'Gatka', a form of martial arts. Though for DON 2 she didn't go about mastering any special art, in the Bollywood scheme of things she was more than glad to rehearse for days at stretch and get it just right.

Says Priyanka, ''It was really cool to do all the action for DON 2. Trust me, action here as surpassed the one that we saw in DON.

When asked about her 'special preparations', she says with a mock laughter, ''The biggest challenge for me to look macho instead of being a sissy. So many times it happens that when girls fight, it indeed looks like a 'girl fight'. I had to look like a boy.''

Attaboy, shall we say?

Africa Sings “Chammak Challo” With Akon

People around the world are singing Akon’s track, “Chammak Challo” fromShahrukh Khan’s Bollywood sci-fi blockbuster Ra. One, and that doesn’t exclude West Africa.

The track is still very popular in many African countries, and this month the New York Library published an article about the popularity of Bollywood in Africa.

Indian movies arrived in West Africa in the 1950’s and the films were a big hit. It wasn’t a problem that the films were in Hindi with no subtitles, the West Africans could relate to it. Similarities in clothing, food and customs made South Africans relate to Bollywood film.

Many learned Hindi from watching Indian movies. Currently the track, "Chammak Challo,” is a hit, and it makes African’s proud that Senegalese-American singer, Akon sings the track in Hindi. Some consider Senegal to be one of the most Indianophile West African countries where women dance to Bollywood moves, and are Bollywood buffs.

Bollywood is loved around the globe and that’s making everyone sing, “You Wanna Be My Chammak Challo!”

SRK, Salman’s detractors using Ash to pull them apart

Mumbai: We all were waiting to see Aishwarya Rai sizzle on-screen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project `Bajirao Mastani` opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

Buzz has it that Ash is actually not contemplating making a comeback any time soon and she is certainly not in talks with Bhansali over the project in question.

`Bajirao Mastani ` was initially offered to Salman Khan, when the `Dabangg` superstar was in Bhansali’s good books.
However, post his break-up with Aishwarya Rai, Salman’s relationship with Shah Rukh Khan and the filmmaker worsened.

After `Guzaarish`, Bhansali and Salman’s relationship could only get worse than ever before. And since `Saawariya` failed miserably at the Box Office, the two haven’t been discussing any project together!

However, what comes as a rude shock from insiders is that detractors of Salman and Shah Rukh have been deliberately using Aishwarya’s name to broaden the animosity between the two superstars.

Moreover, SRK is not doing `Bajirao Mastani` as was reported earlier. He is certainly discussing some project with the ace director but it’s his ambitious project.

Well…we hope Shah Rukh and Salman realize that there is somebody behind making them foes!

Shah Rukh Khan offers Lady Gaga lead role in Bollywood film

Bollywood King Shah Rukh Khan has offered the lead role to pop superstar Lady Gaga in his next movie.

Khan said that he would love to cast Gaga in one of his Bollywood productions during an interview on UTV in which the pair talked about love, shopping and music, the Mirror reported.

The 'Born this way' singer told Khan that she would love to be part of a Bollywood movie, but not as a leading actress instead "in a smaller role".

"I don't have any illusions of being a lead actress! Instead, I would like to be cast in a smaller role," she said.

During their hour-long chat Khan also taught the singer how to speak some Hindi including how to address her "little monsters" when in India.

The pair also spoke about reincarnation, with the singer revealing that she believed in the concept of rebirth.

"I believe you can be reborn over and over again.

"I believe I was my father's sister. My father's sister died when she was 19 years old and I believe her spirit is with me and so I believe that I am her reincarnation.

"When I'm in America and I talk about it they look at me like I'm on crazy cakes," she added.
