Shahrukh Khan to own franchise in i1 Super Series

The organisers and the management of the Indian Racing League have revealed the details of the franchise owners of the i1 Super Series. In their announcement, the organisers claim to have attracted bollywood and cricket celebrities for the ownership of eight racing franchises, representing eight Indian cities. Also, Sachin Tendulkar has been roped in as the brand ambassador and advisor for the series.

Mumbai – Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Jai Mehta
Delhi – Mohit Burman and other investors
Hyderabad – Nagarjuna and N.Prasad
Chennai – Tony Fernandes and SG Srinivas
Chandigarh – Yuvraj Singh and local businessmen
Kolkatta – Consortium headed by Sourav Ganguly
Pune - Undisclosed bollywood family
Bangalore - Consortium of investors
The above list is not final and two of the IPL owners are also interested in owning a team.

The i1 Super Series will organise nine races for the 2011-12 season. The races will be held in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar in the Middle East, Chennai and Delhi in India and Malaysia and Bangkok in South-East Asia. Each team will have three drivers – international driver, indian driver with international experience and domestic driver.

The Radical SR3 will be used for competition in IRL, and the series will be a single-make championship. The car is powered by V8 engine producing 230-240PS and weighs around 570 kgs. Radical is a UK manufacturer that manufactures what are essentially racecars that are road-legal and have topped the production (and street-legal) car timesheets for the Nurburgring Nordschliefe for many years, ahead of giants like the Lexus LF-A, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Nissan GT-R, Pagani Zonda F and Ferrari Enzo
