Mumbai, March 8 (TruthDive): Salman Khan has two big festive releases this year with ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Dabangg 2′ releasing on Eid and Christmas respectively.
Dabangg 2′s satellite rights were sold to Star TV for a whopping 42 crores for 11 Years beating up Shahrukh Khan’s Don 2. There were earlier rumours that the rights have been purchased for 50 crores. But, its absolute rumour and Star TV denied it. The final price announced by them is 42 crores.
Karan Johar was ecstatic when Agneepath’s satellite rights were sold for a whopping Rs. 37 crores (approx.) and Shah Rukh and Farhan were on top of the world when Don 2′s satellite rights were sold for an impressive Rs. 32 crores (approx.)!
The sequel of Dabangg has managed to beat both these movies, and that producer Arbaaz Khan is being offered about Rs. 42 crores for the satellite rights.
42 crores is a huge amount and probably higher than the budget of the film. Also, the music rights of this film were sold to T-series for 10 crores. So, it is quite clear that Dabangg 2 is a profitable venture.
Nowadays, newly released movies are broadcast on television very quickly. Earlier, this was not the trend. The current trend is very profitable for both the producers as well as Television channels. Recently, Salman Khan’s Bodyguard which was also broadcast on Star Plus enjoyed TRP rating of 10, the highest ever in history.
Jayantilal Gada, CMD, Pen India Pvt Ltd, the agency that aids the purchase of films for Zee Cinema, justifies a hefty price tag, saying that channels study the production banner’s track record on the small screen before pitching to buy the satellite rights.
It is very probable that these records will be trashed again and again this year with many more Big Budget movies releasing. Especially, Ek Tha Tiger, YRF-SRK Film, Chennai Express, etc.
