Slideshow - Lagaan, Chak De India voted best patriotic films

Saare Jahan Se Acchha...
On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of India’s Independence, we asked our readers in the latest ApunKaChoice poll to pick their favourite patriotic film.

If anything, the result of the poll indicates that there are few takers for breast-beating jingoism and more endorsers for patriotism that harps on self empowerment. Our readers quite wisely chose two of the best films of Indian cinema as their favourites. Yes, the poll resulted in a tie between Aamir Khan’s Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India and Shahrukh Khan’s Chak De India.

We got votes from 1790 people and 37 percent of them voted in favour of Lagaan, which just completed its decade of release this year. The film, released in 2001, even won an Oscar nomination but couldn’t win the coveted golden man. But what has remained etched indelibly in our minds is the struggle of the ragtag bunch of rustic louts who outshined the wily Brits on the cricket field to win a seesawing match. Many still believe that Lagaan is the best work of director Ashutosh Gowariker till date.

Late last year, Gowariker directed another patriotic movie which too was in the race for your votes. Do check ahead which other patriotic films emerged as the favourites of our readers.
