Shahrukh not to play killer Charles Sobhraj

The film’s French makers deny finalising the superstar for the film on the notorious murderer

French celebrity chef Alain Andre is all set to make a film on infamous killer Charles Sobhraj, who is in life imprisonment in a Nepal jail. Andre holds exclusive rights to make the film on Sobhraj, a criminal whose life has been of interest to many a Bollywood filmmaker in the past. The chef has a company called Pash Production in Delhi with partnered with François Enginger. Over the years, Enginger has grown to know Sobhraj through the slayer’s ex-wife Chantal, and believes there is a gentle side to this murderer, which he might try and depict in the film. (Sobhraj has apparently requested Andre not to depict him as a killer.) Shahrukh Khan was rumoured to play the criminal in the film, a claim denied by Andre when he said that ‘I met an Indian producer who told me he was a partner of SRK and so the rumour went around that way… but the discussions with that Indian producer are over’. Is that so? Or is it that SRK has chickened out of playing a deadly real-life murderer known for his ‘great escapes’? We wonder…
