May 12, 2011, (Sawf News) - Asin has been approached to play lead opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Vishal Bhardwaj's 2 States being produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.
The film is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's novel of the same name.
Shah Rukh, 45, has already been finalized to play the male lead; for the female lead, the filmmakers were looking for a South Indian actress as per the dictates of the script.
To begin with, they wanted a new face. Later, the production team started short listing South actresses.
Ileana D'Souza was one such actress considered for the role, as was Vidya Balan.
Nadiadwala and Bhardwaj have now settled on Asin, 25, whom they consider as the perfect choice since she is young and popular. However, Asin is yet to sign the dotted line.
Asin has in the past been paired with Aamir Khan in Ghajini, and with Salman Khan in London Dreams and the soon to be released Ready. She is already signed on for Sajid Nadiadwala production Housefull 2 with co-star Akshay Kumar. Were she to score Shah Rukh Khan also, it would be a enviable professional distinction achieved at a very young age.
Two States is the story of a Punjabi boy, Krish, and a Tamil girl, Ananya, who meet at IIM Ahmadabad. They fall in love and want to marry, but their parents are opposed to the idea. The story recounts the couple's efforts to carry their parents along.
The plot is inspired by Bhagat's own life - he is from Delhi and his wife, Anusha, from Tamil Nadu - and is narrated as a first person account. The tag line of the novel is - The story of my marriage.
