SRK prefers Mumbai hospital to undergo knee surgery because of kids

Mumbai: Actor Shah Rukh Khan has cancelled his plans to go to the US for his knee surgery. Instead, the star will undergo a surgery at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, tentatively scheduled on July 25.
The final operation date will be decided later, however it won't be later than July 27 or earlier than July 20, confirm sources. An alternative site for the operation will be Jaslok Hospital, in case of unforeseen circumstances.
"Dr Ali Irani will be leading the medical board (expected to be a team of nine doctors), who will take decisions regarding the surgery on Shah Rukh. Shah Rukh's physiotherapy team will consist of three specialists, which will be led by Andrew Leipus as his chief physiotherapist. We are expecting him to recover in one month," says a doctor, who is expected to be in the team of doctors who will perform the surgery on Shah Rukh). Andrew is the resident physiotherapist for SRK's cricket team.
Dr Ali Irani, a specialist in sports medicine, is the former resident orthopedic for the Indian cricket team and is cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's personal medical consultant as well.
"Ali Irani also led the team of doctors, who performed the operation on Shah Rukh's shoulder. His shoulder is doing fine now. He decided to have him again to perform the knee surgery. Some of his muscle tendons and ligaments are beyond repair. We are taking a call on what the final corrective surgery procedure should be. It has not been decided yet," informs the doctor adding that fitting a screw to hold the knee joint together cannot be ruled out.
Another primary reason why SRK opted to stay back in India is because of his kids, who have their school in Mumbai. "The kids have their school and it would not be possible for Gauri to manage both, if SRK had got his surgery done in the States. Besides, staying in Mumbai would mean that he would be able to attend office daily and oversee Ra.One's promotional activities that are lined up as well," says a source.
