BO collections of the Zoya Akhtar film place it in the top 10 Hindi grossers of all time
Zoya Akhtar struggled to bring her first film Luck By Chance to completion and give it a good release. It did average business in theatres. But her refreshing new production, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) has not only done well at the box office, but is also threatening to topple some of the biggest hits of recent times that reign on the money-making list. Trade reports suggest that its overall collections are expected to be near Rs 150 crore, which would be more than Shahrukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om (at Rs 148 crore) and at par with Dhoom:2 (Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai starrer). ZNMD is already at No 9 in the roster of top 10 biggest Hindi cinema grossers worldwide. The film is climbing its way up the list, as it continues its run in the theatres after a month of release and despite stiff competition from Ajay Devgn’s film, Singham. At this rate, ZNMD might take over Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (at Rs 157 crore) and Golmaal 3 (at Rs 163 crore). But the question is – will it manage to topple any of the films in the top five? Incidentally, all five films belong to Aamir Khan, Salman Khan or Shahrukh Khan – 3 Idiots stands tall at Rs 339 crore, Dabangg at Rs 213 crore, My Name Is Khan is Rs 191 crore, Ghajini at Rs 189 crore and Ready at Rs 179 crore. It should be interesting to see a three-hero film with Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol strike any of the Khans’ films off the top 10.
