This week in the entertainment world, “The Good Wife” star Archie Panjabi helped raise money at a New York gala for underprivileged children India, while “Slumdog Millionaire” actor Dev Patel began shooting for his latest film. On the other side of the world, Amitabh Bachchan joined the A-list “Ra.One” cast, and Bollywood said goodbye to music legend Jagjit Singh.
Alongside actor James Franco, Dev Patel began shooting fpr his latest role in the film “Cherry”. The indie flick, directed by Stephen Elliott, will tell the tale of a troubled 18-year old girl who moves to San Francisco to enter the pornography industry. Girlfriend Frieda Pinto recently starred in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” alongside Franco as well.
Across the country, Archie Panjabi emceed the annual Pratham Gala at the Pierre Hotel in New York City. Pratham is a non-profit, Mumbai-based organization that helps educate underprivileged children in India. Panjabi, who donned a stunning Lanvin gown and Iradj Moini necklace at the gala, was recently appointed the organization’s U.S. ambassador.
Over in Bollywood, Shilpa Shetty’s new film “The Desire” is winning international praise. After becoming an official selection at the New York City International Film Festival, “The Desire” went on to win Best Narrative Feature Film at the Geneva Film Festival and Best Background Score at the New Jersey Independent South Asian Cinefest.
Speaking of hit new films, Amtiabh Bachchan will officially lend his voice to the highly anticipated “Ra.One”. Star of the superhero flick, Shahrukh Khan, has already roped in celebrities such as Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Priyanka Chopra, and Sanjay Dutt to star in or make appearances in the film.
Finally on a sad note, Bollywood bid farewell to legendary musician Jagjit Singh after he died on Tuesday. A few celebrities tweeted their respects for the man with the golden voice and the impact he had on the music world.
