Will Akshay Kumar’s ‘Desi Boyz’ beat Shahrukh Khan’s ‘RA.One’?

Desi Boyz is doing well at the BO but might not make it to the 100cr club a la King Khan’s superhero film

Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s first outing together, Garam Masala, was a decent hit and now we heard that Desi Boyz, even with an ‘A’ certificate, has managed to collect a net Rs. 9cr on the first day. On Saturday, the collections went up slightly to Rs. 9.25cr. The collections on Sunday were Rs. 10cr, taking the 3-day total to Rs. 28.25cr, managing to achieve footfalls not just in multiplexes but single screens as well. We can safely say that the Rs. 100cr mark – which 3 Idiots, Golmaal 3, Dabangg, Bodyguard, Singham, RA.One, Ready crossed – will be difficult for Desi Boyz to achieve because at the rate at which it’s going, it seems by the end of the first week it will make about Rs. 35-40cr. Even if it really does pick up tremendously in the second week, the most optimistic figure we can expect is Rs. 60cr.

The biggest deterrent for Desi Boyz in the second week is the fact that Vidya Balan’s The Dirty Picture will hit the screens. Once that happens, Desi Boyz will lose more ground and will remain a second option for moviegoers. Neither Akshay nor John has had a huge solo-hero hit to boast of in the past two years. John’s last film Force fared better than many of Akshay’s recent duds but he still has a long way to go to join the big league. While trade pundits seem to think that the film will do well, it definitely will not manage to be a milestone in the career of the desi boyz. Wethinks it will take more than just beefcake bods to break into the zone where the Khans reign supreme. Do you agree? Tell us!
