Shahrukh Khan's production and acting venture Ra.One is one of the most-discussed movies of 2011. This sci-fi movie, like Shankar's Robot (SRK's shrieks at the slightest comparison of Ra.One to Robot) is shot with a high budget, mind boggling special effects and a technical crew from Hollywood. The movie was originally scheduled for release in April, but was pushed to October and now to the end of the year, due to the time-consuming complex special effects involved.
Even before first pictures of the movie are out, its TV broadcast rights have been sold for a whopping Rs. 40 crores to Star One channel, which is a record for any Bollywood movie. 3 Idiots was at the top of the list after it was sold for 36 crores, while its close contender at the box office, Dabangg was sold for a minuscule Rs. 10 crores to Colors channel. Raajneeti and Tees Maar Khan had sold their rights for 25 crores, while My Name is Khan was sold for 15 crores. Some producers prefer to bundle up their overseas rights, DVD rights and TV rights to sell at a higher price, like Ghajini, which was sold as a package of Overseas, DVD and TV rights for 50 crores.
It isn't surprising that Ra.One had a record TV rights sale, as the movie had invested the best of men and machinery into its production. Academy Award winning Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer will make his maiden attempt in Bollywood with Ra.One, along with Akon, who has sung a song for the movie.
Shahrukh Khan plays a superhero in this movie directed by Anubhav Sinha and Kareena will romance SRK on screen. The title Ra.One is an acronym for Random Access. Version. 1.0.
