The plan to develop cricket stadium in Porbandar was initiated by the husband of Juhi Chawla, Jai Mehta who has the roots in Mahatma Gandhi’s birthplace. The owners of KKR are planning to take over the Duleep cricket ground in Porbandar and develop state-of-the-art stadium.

The stadium will be named after Nanji Kalidas Mehta — Jai’s grandfather. Although the owners of KKR were unavailable to comment on the news but Indian media claimed that the deal has been formulating with local cricket association. “The local district cricket association and Mehta Sports Private Limited recently inked a deal to build the Nanji Kalidas Mehta stadium at a cost of almost Rs 10 crore,” claimed Indian media.

They further claimed that, “They have decided on a three-tiered approach. First they plan to make at least 12 pitches, then the dressing rooms and finally the stands. UK-based David Hemstock Associates will develop the outfield and dressing rooms.”

The cricket stadium will also use as for KKR team practice sessions. The news was also confirmed by Ranchodbhai Shiyal, president, Porbandar District Cricket Association and said that the plan was discussed with Kolkata Knight Rider owners.
