Shahrukh Khan will be acting in the Hindi version of the National Award winning Malayalam film ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’. According to reports, Karan Johar has bought the rights of the critically acclaimed film for close to Rs. 25 Lakhs. The film will be directed by Karan himself and will feature Shahrukh Khan in the lead role.
Adaminte.. directed by debutant director Salim Ahmed featured actors Salim Kumar and Zarina Wahab in the lead roles. It is a story of an elderly couple wanting to perform the Haj pilgrimage and how they try to overcome the obstacles they face in their endeavour. Whereas in the original version the protagonists were grandparents, for the Bollywood remake some changes will be made to the script for it to suit Shahrukh. Whereas the original version was not commercially successful, one can trust Karan to add his Midas touch to this venture.
It seems the Shahrukh - Karan jodi is keen on building on the critical acclaim they received for ‘My Name Is Khan’. The film ‘supposedly’ managed to become one of the highest grossing Hindi films overseas and was also critically appreciated (ahemm!...). Perhaps that is the reason Karan is undertaking another project handling the issue of religious identities. Hopefully this time the enormous production values will not have an effect on the content..eh Karan?
