Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan's multi-crore project ‘Ra.One’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Ready’ are learnt to be on Pakistan’s Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) radar.
The official website of Ra.One was hacked by Pakistani cyber criminals, who are said to be affiliated with the ISI.
Sources say that the producers discovered that their official site was hacked into on Thursday.
Similarly Salman Khan’s Ready, which hit theatres this Friday, was available online on several Pakistani websites few hours after its release, which has apparently hurt the distributors financially.
The breach in Ra.One’s case was supposedly done by certain Pakistani cyber criminals who stated that they were seeking revenge for a similar cyber attack on the Karachi Press Club website.
This poses a threat as it appears that the ISI is getting prominent Indian websites hacked and the Bollywood industry seems to be their target.
Former IPS officer YP Singh who has closely worked with intelligence agencies said, “It could be a ploy by the ISI to initially fund the local hackers to do mischief with entertainment sites from India and then get into some serious stuff harming government and security”.
Shahrukh Khan and Salman, along with other Khans (Aamir and Saif), are extremely popular in Pakistan and have a huge market there. By leaking the music of their films or releasing pirated versions of their movies on the internet, they are targeting the industry financially.
Piracy is already an issue in the entertainment industry, which has sustained losses worth Rs 5000 crores till date.
“Though Ready is a hit, the film is likely to suffer certain losses due to the pirated copies leaked online and through DVD formats. We are prepared for it as we nowadays take separate budget considering the losses occurred due to piracy,” confirms Bhushan Kumar, the producer of film and owner of T Series.
Anti piracy crusader, M.M Satish founder of Global IPRS foundation said, "It is known that Bollywood films still churn good money for pirates through online piracy and hacking of film websites is alarming since the hackers are now receiving support from agencies like ISI from across the border, which is not good news".
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan has denied the hacking of his website, “It is not true, our website is not hacked, our site address is raonemovie.com.”
It seems by blaming the Pakistani hackers, SRK doesn’t want his popularity to go down in the neighbouring country. So politically correct.
