Shahrukh Khan features in Berlinale closing ceremony too

No Indian film star has ever dominated an International Film Festival the way the Badshah of Bollywood did at Berlinale even without being there. Aamir Khan should be justifiably jealous. In spite of doing the grueling Jury duty last year, the wizard of buzz and hype could not do what Shahrukh Khan achieved in his 2 hour appearance here.

The 62nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) saw SRK's name mentioned and discussed in the festival's opening ceremony with the fest director, Dieter Kosslick sending flying kisses and 'Shahrukh we love you' message from the stage. Next he was seen taking dancing lessons from SRK at the end of DON 2 screening and shaking his leg and waist with childlike abandon.

If we thought that the Shahrukh and Berlinale saga had finally come to an end after his film's pathetic performance at the German box office, we were mistaken.

CHECK OUT: SRK will not stop poking!

The picture was not over yet. How seriously SRK's DON 2 dancing lessons were taken became amply evident in the closing ceremony of Berlinale as well when the effervescent Berlinale director tried to do a coordinated duet with the hostess Anke Engelke. One of the DON 2 tunes was properly played, but Anke could not match steps with Kosslick, who did his Guru SRK proud by performing his signature 'ek haanth aage aur ek haanth peeche' move to perfection.

What the super-inventive and resourceful Mr. Kosslick should do next is to curate a special section on films from the Bollywood Dream Factory in the 63rd edition of Berlinale. This can be done on the lines of the Red Dream Factory package this year. The screenings can be supplemented by Bollywood film appreciation seminars and discussions. The Indian film industry will welcome such a move whole-heartedly and send a really good selection of films that represent Indian cinema in its full glory. Of course, DON 2 will not be in the package with its dubious lineage since it is neither Indian nor 'phoren' cinema and is more a film from the nowhere land.
