The Agent Vinod actor says Bollywood is too male-dominated for her to ever be at par with her heroes
There’s a reason that Kareena Kapoor is yet to say yes to an item number in Dabangg 2. Just think about it. The male dominated industry has labelled Vidya Balan as the next Khan, after two films with her as the solo lead – The Dirty Picture and Kahaani – became blockbusters. Kareena Kapoor is yet to be tagged so, even though three of her films – 3 Idiots,Bodyguard and RA.One –crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark. Why, you ask? All three of her movies were dominated by her heroes – Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Kareena was instead criticised for accepting such below par roles – hey, even the kid’s character in RA.Onehad more significance than hers! Though she did the movies, it seems it didn’t go down well with our darling Bebo. She recently said at an event, “I don’t think I’m a hero because all the films like 3 Idiots, RA.One and Bodyguard that made Rs. 1 billion and Rs. 1.5 billion, their producers and all the three Khans took home the money. What am I left with? Chammak Challo.”
And that’s not all. Bebo lashed out saying that Bollywood was so male-dominated that there’s hardly anything left for the female actors. “[In Bollywood] It’s always between three or four Khans or other male actors. I guess female actors are there for just dancing with them. We have to stand behind Shah Rukh and Salman (Khan) and say, ‘Hey! I’m here too, give me something to do.’ And the pay cheques, what Salman gets and what I get… let’s not even get there,” said Kareena. Looks like the strength of her onscreen characters in Heroine and Agent Vinod has rubbed off on the real life Kareena too. Finally someone has the guts to speak out instead of sweeping it under the carpet. We like!
